Metals and mining is a fairly large category encompassing mining companies, metal producers, and metal product manufacturers. Here are some highlights on some of the sub-industries within this category to help you find trade setups or potential investments in areas that interest you. Aluminum: This section contains producers of alumina and aluminum as well as producers of aluminum-based products. Examples of companies in this section include:

Coal Mining: Most of the companies in the section are U.S.-based companies and included are producers of thermal and metallurgical coal. Most of the companies in this section are small or micro-cap companies. Examples of companies in this section include:

Copper Mining: Most of the companies in this section are Canadian-based companies that mine copper in addition to other metals. However, two of the largest companies in this section are based in the United States:

Diamonds: A small selection of Canadian-based diamond mining companies are the only diamond mining companies that are publicly traded on U.S. exchanges.
Diversified Mining: In this category, you will find some of the largest mining companies in the world. These companies are leading producers in numerous mining categories. Examples include:
Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd. (TRQ)
Gold, Large and Mid-Cap and Small-Cap Companies: Most of the gold mining companies listed on U.S. exchanges are headquartered outside of the United States and most are headquartered in either Canada or South Africa. One of the largest U.S. companies in this section is Newmont Mining Corporation (NEM) whose employees were kind enough to fill the car of an InvestSnips contributor when he was running out of gas in the Nevada desert (he will always be grateful, thank you!). Rare Earth: The companies in this section are currently micro-cap companies.
Royalties and Trusts: These companies do not operate the actual mines or land but instead generate income from leasing out the land to mining companies. Examples of these companies include:
