List of Preferred Stock ETFs Listed on U.S. Exchanges

Here are a few notes regarding these preferred stock ETFs:

  • Preferred stocks are favored by some investors due to the fact that they have characteristics of both bonds and stocks.
  • The bond characteristics relate to the fixed/stable dividends they pay shareholders in addition to a higher frequency of distributions (when compared to common shares).
  • The stock characteristics relate to the appreciation that may occur and the ownership in the company that one receives when they own preferred shares.
  • These ETFs are heavily weighted towards securities in the financial sector. The exception to this is the Market Vectors ETF that excludes these companies.
