Five ETFs may not seem like a big number, but the number makes Mexico one of the more represented countries when it comes to ETFs listed on U.S. exchanges. Here are a few notes regarding these ETFs:
- While companies in the consumer staples and financial sector have historically been the most represented, it is rare for a sector to represent a significant percentage of the total ETF weight (over 30%).
- It is common for these ETFs to be weighted towards its top holdings which have included America Movil (telecommunications), Grupo Televisa (media), Fomento Economico Mexicano (beverage and retail), GPO Finance Banorte (banking) and Wal-Mart de Mexico (Wal-Mart’s Mexican division). America Movil in particular usually makes up a large percentage of the ETF.
- There are also a handful of ETFs on this list that focus on Latin America. It is common for Mexican stocks to make up around 30% of these ETFs.
