List of Developed Markets ETFs (U.S. Excluded) Listed on Major U.S. Exchanges

The ETFs in this category focus on companies from developed market economies but exclude companies from the United States. Examples of developed markets include Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. When companies from the United States are included in global ETFs, U.S. stocks tend to make up a very large percentage of the ETF. With these ex-U.S. ETFs, investors have an increased amount of choices if they want exposure to global stocks outside of the United States.

A couple of notes regarding these ETFs:

  • As a collective whole, Japan and the United Kingdom are the most represented countries within this group of ETFS. It is very common for these two countries to each represent approximately 20 percent of the ETF.
  • Canada and South Korea are sometimes included in these ETFs and other times are excluded from the ETF.
  • The amount of stocks within each ETF varies, with many ETFS comprised of around 200 stocks with several ETFs comprised of over 1,000.
