List of Canadian ETFs Listed on U.S. Exchanges

Canada has six ETFs on U.S. exchanges specifically focusing on Canadian stocks with an additional 20 ETFS where Canadian companies represent a significant percentage of the ETF weight (30% or higher). Here are a few notes on Canadian ETFs:

The broad-based ETFs focusing on Canada are a familiar trio of ETFs for those familiar with individual country ETFs. There is the iShares ETF (EWC) that is based on an index that is designed to represent approximately 85% of the entire Canadian stock market based on market capitalization. There are also the First Trust (FCAN) and SPDR (QCAN) ETFs that select Canadian companies based on certain fundamental criteria/factors.
As has been the trend in recent years, we are starting to see more and more individual sector ETFs for countries. There currently is only one Canadian sector ETF which focuses on Canadian oil & gas stocks. However, given the size of the Canadian economy and the proximity to the United States, we likely will see more Canadian sector ETFs on U.S. exchanges in the future.
While there is only one ETF focusing on a Canadian Sector, there are over 20 mining ETFs that are weighted towards, and sometimes heavily, Canadian mining companies. In particular, Canada tends to dominate the precious metals category where it is not uncommon for Canadian mining companies to make up between 50 to 70% of the entire ETF weight.
